Tampa Bay Rays Opening Series Review

By #1 Rays Fan

Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays have kicked off the 2011 MLB Season.  The Tampa Bay Rays are looking to defend their 2010 American League East Championship.  Their title defense began with hosting a 3 game series with the Baltimore Orioles.  The Baltimore Orioles have struggled the last few seasons but have brought in some marquee players in the offseason, including Vladimir Guerrero, Derek Lee, Mark Reynolds, and JJ Hardy.  The Baltimore Orioles came into Tampa Bay, Florida and took all 3 games from the Tampa Bay Rays.  Luckily baseball is a marathon and not a sprint.

The Baltimore Orioles took the opening game of the season and series with a 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays.  Ace pitcher David Price went 7 innings but was outdueled by Jeremy Guthrie.  The Orioles took the the second game by a 3-1 score and the third and final game 5-1.  Overall, the Tampa Bay Rays are going to need to score more than 1 run per game.  The 3 runs in 3 games is tough for the pitching staff if they don't get any run support.  However, it was just one series and hopefully the Tampa Bay Rays can get the bats going.
